what podcast are you listening to?

Podcasts are popular, there is no doubt about it. In fact, a recent article on TechCrunch reported:

In 2021, U.S. podcast advertising revenues rose to $1.4 billion, surpassing the $1 billion mark for the first time, a revenue increase of 72% year over year, according to the study. IAB also forecasts that the market will exceed $2 billion in 2022 and will be over $4 billion by 2024.

Whether you listen to podcasts on your commute, while working out, or while cleaning the house, we have a few suggestions. We asked Association Forum members (and staff!) what podcasts they’re listening to. Here’s what they had to say…

I love, love, love podcasts. Right now, I’m obsessed with two—one is called “The Business of Hype” by Hype Beast Radio and the other is Dateline podcast, “The Thing about Pam“.

The Business of Hype is an in-depth interview series that focuses on the business side of some of the most iconic fashion pioneers, artists, and musicians. This podcast asks the creatives to tell the down and dirty details about running a business and being a leader.

One of my staff turned me onto the Dateline podcast and I was totally hooked. It’s a great guilty pleasure listen while cooking or doing chores.

I have two favorite podcasts—”Hidden Brain” with Shankar Vedantam and “Clear+Vivid” with Alan Alda. Both podcasts explore science, communication, and connection with our colleagues and families. I love to listen while cooking, cleaning, or walking. The time zips by!

I love love love the “Women at Work” HBR Podcast! I find the episodes to be honest and raw experiences of women in leadership. With a variety of hosts and guests, the hosts provide a space to tackle all the things we think and experience but can have difficulty finding the space to talk about. This is a must-listen for any woman in the workplace, especially women executives.

Kim Sterling

I started listening to “The Mincing Rascals” earlier this year. It’s a group of reporters including Eric Zorn, late of the Tribune, and also includes Austin Berg from the Illinois Policy Institute, so you get a wide range of opinions from liberal to conservative and libertarian. They talk about the issues facing Illinois and Chicago in a very calm, informed way that takes into account all the complexities of the real world. It’s a pleasure to hear smart people talking about complicated issues with respect and actual data and information.

I listen to around 10 daily news and business podcasts (lately, including two on Ukraine) and several more dropped every week or two including: all four Freakonomics podcasts, two on the pandemic, and many from NPR.  “Against the Rules“, “Gangster Capitalism“, and “Deep Cover” are a few series podcasts that I find very captivating.

Currently I’m listening to the “Will Be Wild” series about events leading up to the January 6th insurrection.  Listening to podcasts are also a great motivator to workout.

Some of my favorite podcasts include the following: “Digital Marketing Made Simple” by Jennie Lyon; “Breakpoint“; “In the Market” with Janet Parshall; “Lawless“; “Thinking in Public” with Albert Mohler; “Treasured Truth“; “The World and Everything in It“.

You might say the top podcast themes I enjoy are marketing, philosophy, current events and spiritual growth!

Shawn Randle headshot  I am not currently listening to a podcast. However, I have finished Trevor Noah’s audio book “Born A Crime“.  This is an amazing account of his upbringing and what made him such a dynamic, charismatic, yet humble person. I found a new level of respect for him as a person and his informative, yet extremely comedic take on the world. He is someone who has literally lived the rags to riches story.
