CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (November 29, 2022) – Association Management Center (AMC), a leading Chicago-based association management company, regretfully announces that co-founder and first President, Art Engle, died on November 19, 2022.

Art had a strong belief in family values and giving back, donating time and resources to numerous professional, civic, service, and faith-based organizations. He was also an exceptional business leader, entrepreneur, and pioneer in the field of association management.

In 1974, Art and his wife Dagny founded AMC. From the start, Art was determined to incorporate core family values and principles of servant leadership into AMC. His vision and leadership propelled AMC from a small, family-run company to a robust organization that today employs 175 professionals and serves 27 full-service professional healthcare and trade associations. Through the decades, Art’s leadership, humble confidence, and focus on empowering others inspired those around him to grow and become great leaders.

Active within the association management industry outside of AMC, Art served as president of the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC), which was later renamed the AMC Institute. His achievements were also recognized with the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Award from the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Illinois Family Business of the Year Award in 1995.

Today, the founding values of mutual trust, respect, caring, and helping volunteer leaders “achieve what they believe” remain the cornerstone of AMC and Art’s most enduring legacy.

“Art was a pioneer in the world of association management,” stated Steve Smith, current CEO of Association Management Center (AMC). “He understood that associations – no matter their size or focus – benefitted from scalable, customized, models of professional support and service – and made that obtainable to groups who are still thriving today.” He added, “Like many people who knew and worked with Art, I am deeply grateful and appreciative for the many ways his work and kindness influenced and impacted my professional and personal life.”

Art is survived by his wife of 66 years and fellow AMC co-founder, Dagny Engle; his sons, Scott, Jeff, and Mark and their wives; as well as 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
