Elle Peifer-Funderburg
Assistant Manager, Marketing at the Society of Surgical Oncology

How did you come to the association industry?
I stumbled into the association industry. I applied for my first role because the job description sounded like a great fit. It’s been over two years now at two different associations! Little did I know how much I was going to enjoy working in this industry and the connections I’ve made!

What is your favorite part of your job?
Working closely with our members has been an enriching aspect of my career. As a dedicated marketing professional, a significant part of my responsibility revolves around ensuring our members are well-informed about the latest news and events within our industry.

I find joy in knowing that my efforts contribute to enhancing someone’s professional journey. Whether it’s informing them about educational sessions or spotlighting their invaluable volunteer contributions, I take pride in the positive impact my work can have on brightening someone’s day!

Tell us about a time that your involvement in this community had an impact on your career or life.
In my first few months in the association industry, I attended Association 101. It was my first industry event and I was excited and nervous. At the time, I had no idea what kind of impact it would have on my career.

I can now say that attending the one-day session was one of the best things I could have done for myself as a new professional. It allowed me to network with peers and learn more about associations as a whole. I was able to return to work with a new set of skills that have followed me to this day! I cannot speak more highly of the program for any new association industry workers!

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.
One of the reasons I enjoy working at associations is that many of us cater to industry professionals who help other people with different aspects of life. I love being able to help people, help people!
