Senior Director of Marketing and Communications,
Turnaround Management Association

How did you come to the association industry?
I’ve spent almost my entire career working with associations—more than 20 years! Like a lot of us, I came into it by chance. I started working at an insurance brokerage right out of college. They had quite a few association clients that they provided insurance programs for and I worked on the marketing for those including the newsletters and other forms of communication. I loved working with the association boards and learning about different professions. After that job I went on to work at SmithBucklin and the rest, as they say, is history.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I absolutely love meeting people who are the experts in their field. You don’t get to serve on an association board unless you are very good at what you do and very committed to your profession. I am a sucker for a good story and some of the best I’ve heard have come from association folks!

Tell us about a time that your involvement in this community had an impact on your career or life.
I met my husband through an association colleague (shout out to Deanna!). That has probably been the biggest impact. I was also so touched when I was going through treatment for breast cancer and had so many former colleagues and association volunteers from over the years reach out and check in with me. This is a very caring community.

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.
I am a podcast and audiobook junkie. When I’m working out or cleaning, I am listening to something good, and if you let me know what interests you, I can find something perfect for you! Ask me about the Karen Read trial…
