How did you come to the association industry?
I was recruited for my position with AVMA from the hotel industry. I have been with AVMA 8 years.
What is your favorite part of your job?
This is a tough question because I love my job. I would say that it is creating new ideas and concepts for our convention each year and the feeling of accomplishment when they are successfully executed.
Tell us about a time that your involvement in this community had an impact on your career or life.
In the veterinary industry diversity, equity, inclusion and wellbeing (DEIW) has been a growing concern. This has been a personal focus of mine since being in the hospitality industry, so I got heavily involved in helping to bring attention to this area for AVMA and the veterinary industry. This was done by adding more DEIW content to our events, creating unique inclusive events, and helping to recruit future minority veterinarians. Last year, I was voted as one of the top minorities in veterinary medicine. Not being an actual vet and receiving this acknowledgement was truly amazing.
Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.
Some people know this, but I am big into DJ’ing and I am a car fanatic. I also played professional football.
