Nicole Araujo, CAE
Client Engagement Director, Mighty Citizen

How did you come to the association industry?
Back in 1996, I answered an ad in the Pennysaver for a customer service position at a call center that served association clients. Once I learned what an association was, I was hooked on supporting the industry and the passionate people within it. That’s why I volunteer and applied for an ASAE Board a few years ago. That was a huge celebration day when I was accepted. I just did the math and I’m shocked to say I’ve been working with associations for 28 years. That feels unbelievable! Feels like just yesterday, I was flipping the pages of that Pennysaver.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I absolutely love working with association executives to strengthen their organizations. Sometimes that’s through the services that Mighty Citizen offers, but many times it through connecting them to others in the industry. The missions of associations are improving the world, so it’s amazing to be a part of making them stronger and extending their reach.

I am very proud to say that I was part of the ASAE Industry Partner Alliance when we advocated to allow consultants and industry partners to be able to take the CAE exam. The CAE exam itself was an invaluable process to help me truly understand association operations and how leaders manage and make decisions about the many moving parts of an organization.

I sing in a band and my cats are named Rob Thomas and Jagger.
