Ryan Frydenlund, CIMA, CIPM
Director of operations, Raffa Investment Advisers

How did you come to the association industry?
I joined Raffa in 2017. Joining an investment adviser that was created specifically for nonprofits and associations excited me as a unique opportunity within the financial space. I’ve been working with our association clients for the past 7+ years.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Providing education to our association clients is by far the most rewarding and fulfilling part of my job. Whether it’s presenting a benchmarking presentation to a finance committee to help them better understand the effectiveness of their investment program, or helping an association build out policies and put their cash to work for the first time, allowing our clients to make better informed financial decisions never gets old!

Tell us about a time that your involvement in this community had an impact on your career or life.
I’ve been intimately involved in our Study on Nonprofit Investing for Associations over the past 5-6 years and that has been an enriching experience. We routinely have hundreds of Associations participate in the study, which aims to provide timely, relevant, actionable data about how associations and other nonprofits invest their reserves and how those investments perform. In presenting the results and speaking with associations, it’s clear just how helpful the study is!

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.
I am an avid skier!
