Sheila Brown, MBA
Chapter Relations Specialist, American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)

How did you come to the association industry?
I started as a temp at ACHE and after several months, it led to a full time position in the membership department. I have been with ACHE for 22 years.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is the in-person interaction we have with our members at our annual meetings. The face-to-face connection helps me to have a better connection with them as we interact with each other throughout the year through email or over the phone.

Tell us about a time that your involvement in this community had an impact on your career or life.
I have attended several classes on component relations. Interacting with other association professionals in the same field allows me to learn more about other associations, their membership, and gather tips to make my job better.

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t find on your LinkedIn profile.
I started my college life thinking I wanted to major in computer science. I went to college directly after graduating from high school with this focus in mind. I left my 4-year university to speed up the process by going to a computer school for programming and operations. Needless to say, that was not the direction I was suppose to go and I ended up returning to the business world and getting my undergrad and grad degree in business administration. I went to a vocational high school and my major was business, so that was my destiny.
